Authentication is the process of verifying user credentials for a specified user. Authentication makes sure the user is who they say they are. Users are typically authenticated with a username and password. Authentication verifies user credentials and associates an application session with the authenticated user. Every action to Sitecore Content Marketing Hub is issued from an authenticated user. Authentication, by itself, does not grant access or authority to perform specific actions.

OAuth 2 is an authorization framework that enables applications to obtain limited access to user accounts on an HTTP service. It works by delegating user authentication to the service that hosts the user account and authorizing third-party applications to access the user account.
