Create a content type
While pre-defined content types are available by default, you can create new content types to fulfill your requirements. You can also copy an existing content type and modify it to create a new content type. On the Content types page, you edit existing content types (including built-in content types) and add new content types. This page has two tabs:
- Types - on this tab you add content members and detail members.
- General members - on this tab you add general content metadata.
After you create the content type, you add members to it that define the sections and layout. For each content type, you can perform various actions.
For an example of how to use content types, see Using references with content types.
To create a content type:
On the menu bar, click Manage .
On the Manage page, click Content types.
On the Types tab, click Add type.
In the New M.ContentType dialog box, on the Details tab, define the following parameters:
Field Type Description Mandatory Label String Name of the content type. Yes Identifier String Unique identifier for the content type. Defined automatically based on the label but can be manually set. Once the identifier is set, it can no longer be updated. No Prefix String Prefix defining the content type. Defined automatically based on the label but can be manually set. Once the prefix is set, it cannot be updated anymore. No Icon Icon Represents the content type. The icon is also used when no content thumbnail is available. Yes Color List Color used to identify the content type. Yes On the Validation conditions tab, click + Condition and set the following parameters:

Property No Select condition Drop-down list Condition regarding the properties allowed in the member field. Contains, Does not contain (in combination with all or any), Is empty, or Is not empty No Life cycle status Selection list The life cycle stage when validation must occur (default value is Final). Idea, Pending idea, In progress, Final, Archived No Click Save.
Warning
We recommend that you do not chanage the default validation condition and leave it as Final. Changing the default condition can have unwanted side effects and possibly block certain items from moving forward in the flow.
