Add a taxonomy

The properties of a relation to a taxonomy item are the same as for the relation with an entity definition.

To add a new taxonomy, in the General information tab of the New member dialog box, enter the necessary information and click Save.

The fields are as follows:

  • Name: the name of the taxonomy member is the name as it appears in the data model.

  • Role: the relation role with the associated definition, for example, parent or child. In this example, the Brand taxonomy member is a child of the Brand taxonomy.

  • Label: shows how the member displays in the UI. This value can be translated for each culture.

  • Help text: a visual hint that displays below the field in edit mode. This hint can be translated for all cultures within the system.

  • Associated label: this defines how the taxonomy relation displays on the associated entity, for example, the member label of the relation on the associated definition.

  • Associated definition: the entity definition name to which the current entity definition relates.

  • Cardinality: specifies the degree of relation relationship: OneToOne, OneToMany, or ManyToMany. In other words, the first item represents the number of occurrences in one entity associated with the number of occurrences in the second entity depicted by the second item. In this example, many assets can belong to one brand only.

If a taxonomy relation has no values, all users get the Write permission, regardless of their user groups. To prevent this, you need to make the relation mandatory in your user group policies.
