Import job

Importing data from an Excel worksheet initiates an import job. This job runs in the background and processes the data from the Excel worksheet.

This section contains the following:

  1. View import jobs
  2. See errors in table
  3. Cancel job
  4. View report
  5. View details

View import jobs

To view an import job:

  1. Go to the Background processes page. Click on your profile icon, then click Background processes:

  2. To view the Import job detail page, click on the Import job. Three buttons are available on the menu bar:

The details of an import job are shown in tabular format:

FieldDetails
TargetThe entity of the import job.
StateThe state of the import job:
  • IN PROGRESS
  • COMPLETED
  • CANCELLED
ConditionThe condition of the import job:
  • PENDING
  • SUCCESS
  • FAILURE

Additionally, you can click to view detailed information on the import job.

The Job details section provides the following information about the import job:

Started onThe date and time that the import job began.
StateThe state of the import:
  • IN PROGRESS
  • COMPLETED
  • CANCELLED
ConditionThe condition of the import:
  • PENDING
  • SUCCESS
  • FAILURE
TypeThe type of the job.
Percentage completedThe percentage of the import job completion.

See errors in table

The See errors in table button is only active when the import job is a mass-edit job, and there are errors in the data imported:

To preview the errors, click See errors in table:

  • Errors are highlighted with a red background. Click Mass-edit in table to correct the errors.

  • The following example shows how the Mass-edit in table can be used to remove the title assets. Because the Title field is mandatory, this edit generates an error when importing the changes:

Cancel job

To cancel a job:

  1. Click Cancel job.
  2. In the Cancel job confirmation dialog box, click OK.

Clicking OK pauses the import job. The label on the Cancel job button changes to Resume job.

To resume the job:

  1. Click Resume job.
  2. In the Resume job confirmation dialog box, click OK.

When you click OK, the job resumes. A new entry shows on the Import job detail page.

View report

To see the report for an import job, click View report. The Job report dialog box opens.

The Job report dialog box includes the following section:

  • Info section - indicates whether the import is processed in batches or imported in parallel, as well as any security applied during the import. In the following example:

    • The Excel column LifeCycleStatusToAsset applied security when changing the lifecycle status.
    • No self-relation columns were found in the M.Asset sheet. This sheet is imported in batches of 10.
  • Warn section - details the warnings generated during import. The warnings are handled automatically. In the following example, an Excel column named VisionDescription on tab M.Asset maps to a member that does not allow updates and is ignored.

View details

To view the details of an import job, click . The Job report dialog box opens.

The Job report dialog box includes two tabs:

Details

The Details tab displays:

Started onThe date the import started.
Date finishedThe date the import finished.
Status detailsThe status of the import:
  • Failure
  • In progress
  • Target canceled
  • Target completed successfully
  • Target completed with failures
DataShows three types of data:
  • Info - for an import that is In progress the Info section shows the percent of the import that has been completed and the time it has taken to complete the processing. By default, this is set to 20, using the numberOfRowsForPeriodicReport setting. For example:
    • Processed 20 items of sheet 'M.Asset' - 0% completed in 13s.
    • Processed 40 items of sheet 'M.Asset' - 1% completed in 14s.
    Once the import is complete, there is an additional field called Time completed. For example:
    • Target completed in 480s.
  • Warn: this section details the warnings generated during the import. The warnings are handled automatically. For example:
    • Row 24: Could not find entity with 'Identifier': 'M.Tag.mask', entity definition 'M.Tag', full path 'M.Tag.mask'.
    • Row 40: Could not find entity with 'Identifier': 'M.Tag.doll', entity definition 'M.Tag', full path 'M.Tag.doll'.
    • Error: if the import fails, the details of the error are shown. For example, the following error shows that the import does not contain a mandatory field:

TargetsThe target job of the import. For example, Mass edit job or Import job.
ScopeThe scope tag allows media processing workers to restrict requested flows to a given scope. Ideally, this tag should be a simple alphanumerical identifier without any special characters. It should be short but still readable. For example, movie, other_media, us, asia, and so on.
PriorityThe priority is an option list giving a class of priority.
Retry countThe Retry count is an integer defining how many times to retry the job.
StateThe state of the import:
  • In Progress
  • Completed
  • Cancelled
ConditionThe condition of the import:
  • Failure
  • Pending
  • Success
TypeThe type of job. For example, import job
Target.PriorityLevelThe Target priority is an integer giving the job a priority.

System properties

In the System property section, the System properties tab provides the system details of the import job:

IDThe ID of the import job.
IdentifierThe identifier of the import job.
Created byThe individual who created the import job.
Created onThe date on which the import job was created.
Modified byThe individual who modified the import job.
Modified onThe date on which the import job was modified.
VersionThe version of the import job.
